"Nothing lasts forever," she said,
and sighed a sigh that shattered the hearts
of a thousand crystal panes
in the palace of Shangri-La.

I look down at my hands,
cold in my lap.
And I know her words are true...
I know; Everything fades away.

The silence seems to drag on forever.

"Do you think," I say, and stop.
The words crumble to dust in my mouth.
It will never be the way it was.
People forget who they were.

The silence is crushing me.

It doesn't hurt, not yet.
The numbness holds me captive.
I sit like a porcelain doll, face uncaring,
I watch my trembling hands.

She moves; a shift.
Her hand is warm on my cold ones and
I flinch away.
Her touch is burning and I cannot stand the feel
                                                                          of her
Or I will remember
Her arms entwined in mine.
And I will remember
The salty sweet taste of her lips.

Her hand retreats back-
and I look up and catch the pain in her eyes.
Good, I think, and try to take pleasure
in it; but it only stings me deeper.

The silence is unbearable.

I want to leave; to escape.
But my legs have turned to stone.
I only sit and stare and hope
the stone will fill my heart as well.

"Will we ever be happy?" she asks,
her face a mask of misery.
She actually wants me to answer.
How? My world is caving in; it is splintering.

I follow her face with my eyes
like a dead fish, my mouth is moving
like a dead fish, and words that aren't mine say
"I am happy"

But she knows it's not true just like I knew
Nothing lasts forever,
though I wanted to pretend it would.
And we both know we
               haven't
                   seen
                       each other
                           in years.
Though we've been together every day.

The silence drags on until it finally breaks her and she stands.

I do not see her walk away.
I do not see her turn one last time.
I do not say goodbye.
We said goodbye long ago.

Dusk fades to night and the silence swallows me whole.

haha my creative writing teacher read it and he was like - "good! but you can't do that step thing."

And I'm like... wha?

And he goes "They wont take you seriously if you try to publish it"
